children I Maria's story

Maria was born with a malformed spine (spina bifida aperta)

Maria suffers from paresis (a partial loss of motor skills) effecting the lower part of her body. She also has a serious deformation in both feet (Clubfoot). Today she is nine years old and gets around very slowly using crutches. Without surgical intervention she will rapidly loose any control of independent movement. In the meantime, the Foundation’s technicians have equipped her with a splint which allows her to maintain her balance and move around more freely.

Support Costs: CHF 1,000 per annum* Surgical intervention estimated costs are CHF 3,500.-

* To be truly effective the therapeutic care must be extended to adulthood for these children. As they grow the equipment has to be adapted. This needs to be done on an annual basis.
